Critch runner-up in MVP rankings
MATT Critchley’s outstanding 2021 season in all formats has earned him the runner-up award in the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player rankings.
Only Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer, who has been named the PCA men’s domestic overall MVP for a third year in a row, stood above him.
The PCA overall MVP rankings is based on points earned across all domestic competitions, based on performance.
Harmer scored 600 points at an average of 16.2 per game last season, 91 clear of Derbyshire all-rounder Critchley.
A key performer in the LV Insurance County Championship and the Vitality Blast, Critchley also made five appearances for
Welsh Fire in The Hundred and finished the season with 508 MVP points from 31 appearances at an average of 16.4 per game.
He was one of only five players to score 1,000 runs in the Championship, finishing with an average of 43.50 and eight scores over 50 – a competition high.
The 25-year-old’s leg-spin also brought him 48 wickets in all competitions.
“I think it makes it sweeter that this prize recognises what you have done throughout the whole of 2021, not just in one game, one format or one month,” he said.
“It was a special summer for me personally, getting to play in The Hundred for Welsh Fire and also to make 1,000 runs in the County Championship for the first time.
“Thank you to everyone at Derbyshire, the PCA and my family for all the support this year.”
