THREE weeks of road closures will start on a busy Derby route later this week.

A major roadworks project gets under way in Pear Tree Road, Normanton, on Thursday, with a closure in place for up to 10 hours each weekday until October 28.

Closures will be in force on five separate stretches along the route at different stages over the course of the three-week project.

Derby City Council will be resurfacing the whole of Pear Tree Road, between its junctions with Normanton Road and Dairy House Road. Work is expected to be carried out between 8am and 6pm each weekday.

The first phase will be carried out from the roundabout where motorists can access Normanton Road to the Stanhope Street / Corden Street roundabout.

Phase two will cover the road surface area at the Stanhope Street/

Corden Street roundabout, before work progresses further to reach the road’s junction with St James’ Road in phase three.

Phase four will see work move further down the road to its junction with Becher Street, before the final phase five sees work reach the roundabout from which motorists can access Dairy House Road, St Thomas Road and Princes Street.

A diversion route will be in place for motorists via Normanton Road, Lara

Croft Way, Osmaston Road, Dairy House Road, and Pear Tree Road.

Elsewhere, a six-week project in Osmaston Road, Allenton, which started last month, will also continue to affect journeys this week, with road closures in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm each weekday.

And Derby City Council’s 20-week project to upgrade the traffic lights at Pentagon Island, with temporary traffic lights and lane closures likely to continue to affect motorists at the busy roundabout this week.

Derby City Council will be carrying out road surface repairs in Burbage Place, Alvaston, this week. Starting tomorrow, a road closure will be in place between 8am and 3pm each day until Thursday, October 7.
