Prophetic words came out of a pub quiz

-

TEN years ago, I was talking to a man at a pub quiz who said he was an HGV driver and he was planning to retire.

I do remember him saying that there was going to be a crisis in the future as few youngsters were wanting to train as drivers, though he didn’t mention the reasons why.

It has now become apparent that the reasons “why” were a combination of poor conditions and low pay due to using cheap labour from eastern Europe.

All of the companies now whining about lack of drivers and blaming Brexit had years to train the drivers they needed but chose to use cheaper east European labour and to avoid the expensive training costs.

Profit is more important than training as far as they are concerned.

We also have other industries saying they need immigrant labour which begs the question ‘what are the six million EU immigrants who applied to stay in Britain doing?
