Four more Covid deaths recorded over 24 hours

ANOTHER four Covid-related deaths have been recorded across Derbyshire in the last 24 hours, according to the latest UK Health Security Agency (formerly Public Health England) data.

The deaths were recorded in Derby, Amber Valley, South Derbyshire and Chesterfie­ld.

It comes as more than 700 new cases of coronaviru­s were reported across Derbyshire in the last day.

The latest official figures published on Tuesday evening showed a total of 719 positive tests – including 131 in Derby and 588 in the wider Derbyshire area.

Across Derbyshire, 2,687 people have died from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Of the new cases reported on

Sunday, Amber Valley saw the biggest increase outside of Derby, with 136 more cases. There were 88 more positive tests in South Derbyshire, 77 in Chesterfie­ld, and 66 each in High Peak and Bolsover. Erewash saw the smallest rise, with 50 new cases.

In total, 126,285 coronaviru­s cases have been detected in Derby and across wider Derbyshire since the beginning of the pandemic.
