POLICE have sent a warning to “hooligans” who choose to use Derbyshire as a fly-tipping hotspot – by seizing a culprit’s car and having it destroyed.

The vehicle, which officers say was used in the illegal dumping of rubbish in South Derbyshire, was seized by Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team.

It was then crushed at a scrapyard on September 28, after police teamed up with council officials.

Two pictures posted by police to social media show how the car was brutally smashed to a smithereens.

A spokesperson from Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team told fly-tippers to “think again” after releasing the images of the car’s destruction.

They said: “To these fly-tipping hooligans – what were you thinking?

“If you think you can use South Derbyshire as your own personal dump, then think again.

“Officers from our local district council worked with our team to gather intelligence and ultimately seize these vehicles.”

As an extra taunt to the fly-tippers, police pointed out how their foolhardy attempts to stop the authorities seizing the car – by taking the tyres – just spurred officers on.

The police added: “And to the driver who attempted to take the tyres off one of the vehicles to stop us getting the car, before we put them back on the same car, then the good news is the freshly-installed tyres made a lovely popping sound when they went through the crusher.”

The officers also saw the funny side of the rubbish dumpers now ending up with a car reduced to scrap.

“For the avoidance of doubt, vehicle owners who dump mullock will find their vehicles will become mullock,” they added.
