Brexit deal shows the incompetence of Govt

-

IN response to Lee Knowles’s letter (“We’re much better off without EU shackles”, October 5), I would like to point out a few facts.

He says the German chancellor was our most influential politician.

I assume he’s aware that we had elected members of the European Parliament to speak out on our behalf on issues. Maybe if we hadn’t elected members of the Brexit Party to the parliament we would have had more say. Their interests were in trying to disrupt the EU rather than represent us to get the laws passed with proper discussions.

I also think it a bit rich he talks about laws being imposed on us by unelected people, when we have the House of Lords. It seems the best way to get in there these days is to donate to the Tory party, rather than any qualities to improve our decision making.

I agree with Paul B Longbridge’s letter (“Has anyone seen any Brexit advantages?”, October 4), when he says there have been no benefits to Brexit. All we’ve had is shortages of labour, shortages of goods, major problems with Northern Ireland and farmers and fishermen being lied to.

It shows the incompetence of this Government that they rushed the most important legislation for this country in nearly 50 years through Parliament in half a day, giving MPs no time to scrutinise it before voting for the deal or the disastrous no-deal.
