Wild campsite and timber pods proposed for village site
PLANS are in motion for a new “wild campsite” near Ashover for next summer’s arrival of staycationers.
An application has been submitted to North East Derbyshire Council’s planning committee for the campsite to be built at Poorlots Quarry, in Lickpenny Lane.
Wild camping involves setting up camp outside of a campsite or caravan park and sleeping in your tent in the wilderness.
The quarry has been home to a wild campsite in the past, with Henley Park Wild Camping occupying the site close by, but this new proposal goes further than just a wild campsite.
According to planning documents, the developers also want to add 20 timber pods to the location and turn the former stone quarry into an area that would include tented camping areas.
If the proposal is given the go-ahead, it is estimated the development would create three new jobs, one full time and two part-time roles.
The site will also be home to a family camping area and an existing timber building will be used to provide “an amenity building providing facilities and services for the occupants”.
Each timber pod will be situated on a raised timber platform “so that the ground below will be undisturbed” they will be built off-site and brought in with a grass-covered roof with solar panels.
No new access road is proposed for the site, which is already served by an existing track off Lickpenny Lane and a car parking area will be designated on an existing hard-surfaced area next to the amenity building.
The proposal is now due to go before planners at North East Derbyshire Council will a decision on the development expected before the middle of December.
