More than 770 new Covid cases in county

ANOTHER 776 people have tested positive for coronaviru­s in Derbyshire, according to the latest official figures published by the Government.

Derby recorded the highest number of new cases after 181 people tested positive for the virus. It was followed by Amber Valley, where 120 cases were found.

High Peak recorded the fewest cases, with 48 people testing positive for coronaviru­s.

There have now been 131,289 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 in Derbyshire.

No new coronaviru­s-related deaths were recorded in the area yesterday.

Official figures from NHS England show that 2,199 people have died from the virus in the county.

The Government said a further 28 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 137,763.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

As of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 40,224 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to October 10 shows that of the 94,376,101 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,186,920 were first doses, which was a rise of 22,106 on the previous day.

Some 45,189,181 were second doses, an increase of 19,451.

■Derby - 34,685 (+181)
