STRICTLY Come Dancing star Adam Peaty suffered an awkward moment when he walked into the wrong studio – and was faced with a room full of tap dancers.

The Olympic swimming champion, whose pool career started in Derby, spoke about the error on social media ahead of appearing again on the BBC One talent show over the weekend.

He was meant to be meeting partner Katya Jones to practise their Rumba, but was comically dropped off at the wrong studio.

The 26-year-old had to do a double-take when he exchanged looks with the room full of tap dancers.

He tweeted with a laughing face emoji: “Just been dropped at the wrong dance studio, walked into a whole class doing tap dance. I wanted to join but walked straight out as I have a rumba to conquer before Saturday.”

Peaty’s social media followers were quick to comment on the amusing incident - with some saying the tap dancers must have been very surprised.

One said: “Bit of a shock when an Olympic champion walks in on your tap dancing class!”

Another user wrote: “I bet that made their day!” Others joked that the athlete should have found a pair of tap shoes and got involved.

One wrote: “Tap dance is equally as addictive as swimming – I catch my kids practicing while queuing”.

“You should have joined them [laughing emoji] dance was there go to while the pools were shut,” another said.

A third compared the moment to a famous film: “That is, quite frankly, brilliant !!!!!! Shame you didn’t join in though! I mean, look at Billy Elliot !!!! ”

Peaty and Jones performed the first rumba of the 2021 series on Saturday.

This week was movie week, which means the celebrities and their pro dancing partners will be dancing along to popular movie songs from Hairspray, Titanic and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, movie week did not go well for the swimmer.

Olympian Adam Peaty and Katya Jones sat at the bottom of the leaderboard after being given a score of 20 points. They were saved from elimination during the Sunday night dance-off.

This week saw Great British Bake Off star John Whaite top the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard. Alongside his partner Johannes Radebe, Whaite performed a paso doble inspired by Pirates Of The Caribbean.

They were scored 39 by the judges, with only Craig Revel Horwood not giving the pair a perfect score.

Judge Anton Du Beke said: “I’m a little overwhelmed, really.

“I have to be honest with you, I thought it might be a bit camp, this number. It was the best thing I have seen all night. You were so strong and believable and powerful.”

Shirley Ballas added: “I haven’t seen anything like that. Thank you for closing our show with such a magnificent performance.”

The routine received the highest score of any dance from the series so far.

CBBC host Rhys Stephenson and his partner Nancy Xu came second with a score of 37 for their Spider Man-inspired routine.
