THE Derby 10K will return to city streets this weekend for the first time since 2019.

After its cancellation in 2020, thousands of runners look forward to taking on the challenge on Sunday, October 17.

The event is Derby County Community Trust’s biggest fundraiser and profits from the event are used to support the trust’s wide-ranging local programmes in areas including education and mental health.

This year’s race has been sponsored by elite sportswear company, HUUB Design, who are committed to supporting events in their home city.

Emma Pilgrim, fundraising and events manager at the trust, said: “We are so excited to finally see the Derby 10K return this weekend.

“After postponing and then unfortunately cancelling the 2020 event due to the pandemic, it has been two and a half years since the city streets were taken over with our runners, and we can’t wait to see everybody back on the start line on Sunday morning.”

The main event will begin at 9am, followed by the Derby 3K Fun Run, sponsored by Motorpoint Derby, at 10.30am.

The route remains the same as previous years, starting on Royal Way and looping around the city, back to Pride Park Stadium. There will be a number of road closures in place which are listed left.

Utilita Energy have joined the trust to supply recycling points for water bottles at the race’s finish in a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the event.

The trust has also put into place a number of changes to help people feel safe during the race.

Participants should arrive “ready to run”, as there will be no mass warm-up this year due to Covid-19 protocol. Spectators are invited to attend the event, but are advised to avoid congregating in large crowds wherever possible.

It is recommended that those who wish to watch the race attend the race village at Pride Park Stadium, or cheer runners on through the city centre, many parts of which are fully accessible around the road closures. While entries to the main race have now closed, supporters can sign up to take on the Derby 3K online until Friday October 15, for £5 per person or £15 for a family of four. Fun run entries are also available on the day at £7 per person.

We can’t wait to see everybody back on the start line on Sunday morning.
