Jarvis in the final of awards to find new artist of year
AN artist from Derby has made the shortlist of 10 for a major national award.
Jarvis Brookfield will have his work exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London from November 4 to 7 ahead of the Robert Walters UK New Artist of the Year Awards, where the winner of the £10,000 cash prize will be announced.
Jarvis made the final 10 from a record-breaking 963 submissions.
Jarvis was born in Croydon, raised in Derby and studied art at De Montfort University. His paintings are said to be “explorations in creating worlds that transcend worldly affairs and embody a celebration of the internal and mysterious world of what it means to be human”.
A spokesman for the awards said: “The judges sought artists and works that explored the impact and aftermath of what has been a globally turbulent and testing time for all, from our relationship to the things we once held close, right through to the pressure and barriers that the pandemic directly presented on our lives.”
