Bus strikes cancelled after fresh pay offer
BUS passengers in Derbyshire are releived after Stagecoach announced the planned strike action by two unions has been called off.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) and Unite unions were due to walk out on Monday in a dispute over pay.
A new pay offer has been made by Stagecoach to employees with that offer due to be voted on with unions said to be recommending their members accept the deal.
Phil Medlicott, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the RMT and Unite unions that provides a fair deal for our employees in Chesterfield and helps to secure the long-term sustainability of the local bus network. We remain focused on delivering the best service possible to our customers at a time when there are challenges facing bus networks across the country as a result of the pandemic and other factors outside our control.”
Stagecoach said cancellation of the strike means services will be running as normal on Monday.
The Unite union had announced 13 days of industrial action.
