Fly-tipped haul ‘something you could have won on Generation Game including a cuddly toy’

-

A HOST of bizarre items were dumped in a Derbyshire lane known as an anti-social behaviour hotspot.

A children’s bike, purple microwave, ironing board and a coffee machine were just some of the household items duped in Moor Lane, near Swarkestone.

There was also a rusty clothes horse, shopping cart, soiled wet wipes and beer and fast-food containers, with police saying the haul was like an episode of the game show the Generation Game.

The items appeared to be that random the Melbourne Police Safer Neighbourhood Team said it reminded them of the much-loved Saturday night show The Generation Game back in the 1970s, when items went past on a conveyor belt and the contestants had to remember them to win them.

The flytipping was found by the officers on Wednesday.

The large pile of waste then had to be cleared by up the South Derbyshire Litter Pickers.

Officers shared details of the find on social media alongside a picture of some of the items, including the blue bike with the word Ariel written on the seat and a very modernlooking purple microwave.

A spokesman said: “Happy memories of watching whimsical and quirky prizes gliding past the victorious contestants on a conveyor belt will bring a smile to most South Derbyshire families. But just like the metaphorical shiny coin of life, there’s often a less bright side. Your Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were greeted with a nightmare fly-tipping version of the popular TV programme.

“At Moor Lane, near Swarkestone village, officers were faced with a stomach-churning and nauseating continuous long belt of bizarre mullock at this well-known antisocial behaviour hotspot.

“To the yet-to-be-identified participator of shame who dumped what appeared to be the well-worn 1970’s contents of the show’s final round at a quiet, peaceful countryside lane – what were you thinking?”

He said the officers who attended could not help let out an ironic sigh of, “coffee machine… ironing board… microwave… cuddly toy!’ as they approached a heap of detritus”.

He added: “With added bonus prizes of a rusty clothes horse, a squeaky children’s cycle and a malodorous smelling shopping cart with complimentary easy-access seating for extra comfort, this unwanted early morning discovery was reported to South Derbyshire District Council for collection and destruction.

“As the officers left the set for this horror show of rubbish, it was impossible not to observe heaps of fast-food packaging, soiled wet wipes, beer bottles and other afterdark materials strewn along the mile-long lane.

“And with a heavy heart, it was impossible not to reflect that our community volunteer rubbish collectors, including the everpopular Viv Taylor from South Derbyshire Litters Pickers, will be facing similar heaps of mullock throughout South Derbyshire on a daily basis.

“So remember, to the person who dumped this latest conveyor belt of filth – you were not having a ‘good game’.

“When officers come knocking on your door you can guarantee we won’t be saying: It’s nice to see you, to see you nice.”
