Turkey deal brings in new jobs for city

-

A LARGE meat preparation facility in Derby has announced that it is hiring to fill a number of vacancies at its city premises.

A chicken factory operated by 2 Sisters Food Group on Shaftesbury Street in the city is now also processing turkeys for the Bernard Matthews brand, creating a number of jobs.

Both 2 Sisters Food Group and Bernard Mathews are owned by Ranjit Singh Boparan, also known as the “Chicken King” of the West Midlands.

The factory is hiring for entrylevel positions in food and production operations, according to Derby City Council’s weekly job bulletin. Workers would be involved with food preparation, including skewering kebabs at a rate of three a minute. Staff will also be trained to cut, de-bone, and trim raw meat on their production line.

The job advert states that employees will “work on a busy production line of up to 15 people – you will work alongside a cell leader who will train you in all aspects of the role. You will need to be reasonably physically fit as you will be required to carry out some heavy lifting and stand for the duration of your shift.”

The company also says that a good understanding of food hygiene is advantageous, although not essential, and applicants should have a “decent level of arithmetic so you can calculate weights and measures”.

Hourly rates advertised by the company range from £8.97 to £12.07 an hour with a mix of temporary and permanent contracts. 2 Sisters is offering two shift patterns, 6am-2 pm or 2.30pm-10.30 pm over six days.
