ELECTRIC CARS
EV sales have doubled this year with interest soaring since petrol and diesel shortages gripped Britain in September. Nearly one in five of all new cars sold last month were electric, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Along with turkey sandwiches, movies topped a list of people’s favourite things about Christmas. Save the Children, which polled 2,000 adults, found that two in five people said the pandemic has changed what they enjoy most about the festive season and that they would be “swapping materialistic traditions for ones that bring joy to their children”.

The black comedy about the warring Roy clan leads the way at the Critics Choice Awards with eight nominations. Kate Winslet’s hit drama Mare of Easttown and the thriller Evil are close behind with five nominations each.

MORE than half of people no longer pay with cash. A poll of 1,500 people by Samsung Pay suggests 52% of adults use digital wallets or bank cards and one in five cannot remember the last time they carried a purse or wallet, instead opting to use smartphones or plastic to pay.
TUI
The holiday giant this week reported an annual group loss of £2.1bn against losses of £2.7bn in 2019-20, as it continued to be hit hard by Covid-19 travel restrictions. Bosses hope summer 2022 will see a bounce-back.
RORY BURNS
England suffered the worst possible start to the Ashes this week when the Surrey batsman was out for a golden duck. Burns was bowled by Mitchell Starc with the first ball of the series. It was his sixth duck of 2021.
