Derby back on top

-

DERBY Futsal head into tomorrow’s match away to Trent Valley back on top of the National Futsal Series tier 2 table A following a 7-2 win over Leicester.

A hat-trick from captain Pawel Tomczak, taking him to seven goals in four games this season, helped set Derby back on track after their 7-5 defeat to York.

A wayward pass gave Sam Nelletamby a tap-in to put Leicester ahead after two minutes but Derby equalised eight minutes later as Tomczak hit a powerful penalty right down the middle.

The Rams were dominant from then on. Alec Barnden hit the post and Matt Richardson’s shot flashed wide before, seconds from half-time, Tomczak scored his and Derby’s second.

He and Sam Huntingdon did well to get out of a tight space, then a great run cutting in from the left and a smart finish in off the post from the skipper gave Derby a deserved lead at the break.

Two minutes after the restart, Tomczak secured his hat-trick from a great pass by Jamie Gregory, who was on his debut.

Derby’s fourth came three minutes later. Huntingdon was involved again, beating his man on the left and delivering a cross for Liam Hunt to finish.

Leicester got their second in the 34th minute before John King, making his first appearance of the season, collected a great pass inside from Richardson to finish with aplomb into the corner.

Richardson got on the scoresheet himself when, with Leicester playing the fly system to try to get back into the game, he won the ball back and was able to shoot into an open net.

Derby’s seventh came through great work again by King, going around two defenders, before a deflection for an own goal.

Derby will look to build on the result tomorrow against Trent Valley, who are a very youthful side yet to pick up a victory this season and have only one point at the bottom of the table, though they are improving.
