Blackpool boss knows the table paints false picture
BLACKPOOL boss Neil Critchley says Derby County manager Wayne Rooney, his staff and the players have done a “remarkable” job this season in the circumstances.
The Rams’ 21-point deduction has left Rooney’s team bottom of the Championship on one point, 20 points adrift of safety.
Derby remain in administration as the search for a new owner goes on.
Blackpool visit Pride Park Stadium today and Critchley has warned that Derby are a much better side than the table suggests.
“Considering the circumstances this season, Wayne Rooney, his staff and the players have done a remarkable job,” Critchley told LancsLive.
“It’s a fantastic football club, I feel for the people who are there now and the supporters who have obviously been there forever. It’s those that suffer because of mismanagement maybe in previous years.
“If you look at the team you might think ‘easy’, they’re only on one point, but obviously they’re only on one point because of their points deduction.
“They’re much better than that and they’ve got good players.
“They’ve got quality players in their team. It was only a couple of games ago they beat Bournemouth at home and they drew with Fulham away, so that tells you what a good team they are.
“They’re good playing at home at Pride Park as well, so we know it’ll be a really difficult game and they’ve got nothing to lose and that can be dangerous.
“They’ll think well ‘everyone’s expecting us to get relegated and we can only give it our best and prove people wrong’ and that can be a dangerous opponent.”
