Stroke victim amputee wins big on lottery

-

MAY has got off to the perfect start for ten neighbours in Derbyshire after they got the knock on the door many dream of from the Postcode Lottery.

One of the winners who shared the £360,000 jackpot certainly deserved some luck, having suffered two strokes and the loss of a leg in recent years.

Lorraine, a grandmother of 11, was presented with her cheque for £30,000 by Street Prize presenter Danyl Johnson. Her husband David paid a moving tribute to his wife.

“It’s about time you had some luck. Well done sweetheart,” David said.

Smiling at her husband, Lorraine said: “I’ve not had a good couple of years. I’ve had a leg off and two strokes. But you’ve been with me all the way through it.”

The couple live in Burn-bridge Road, Old Whittington, Chesterfield, where ten neighbours sharing the S41 9LR postcode are sharing the giant £360,000 windfall.

Asked what the pair plan to spend the money on, Lorraine said they’d be using some of it to remember her late grandson.

“My grandson was born stillborn about 10 years ago. I’m going to pay for him to have a proper headstone and grave,” she said.

Lorraine wasn’t the only one with a big smile on her face and a cheque in her hand.

Lyndsey, a council worker, also netted £30,000, with the money coming at the perfect time for her and her husband Joseph. The pair have been saving for a new home of their own.

Lyndsey said: “This is actually my mum and dad’s house. We’ve got our two little daughters so we recently moved in with my mum and dad so we can save for a house.

“I’m just hopeful we can find somewhere as a family with our two babies. This is beyond our wildest dreams. I can’t even speak.”

Joseph said: “We’ve actually been putting bids in on houses for the past six weeks, this is going to be a huge help.”

Lyndsey added: “Everyone said when we missed out on a bid for a house that something better was around the corner, and now look!”

Shop assistant Susan was one of the lucky winners, and by playing two tickets she collected the handsome amount of £60,000.

She said: “I was playing and stopped, but I thought I’d have another go with two tickets this time, and here we are. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Asked how she’d spend the windfall, Susan joked: “I need a shed!

“But we just might have a cruise next year now, maybe to the Caribbean. I can’t wait for the cocktails!”

Also boosting his bank account by £60,000 was William, a manager of a local deli counter. He was joined by his partner Dorcas.

The pair were in a state of shock when Danyl revealed his prize.

Dorcas said: “I thought all the winners were actors, I really did. We didn’t think we’d win. I’m superduper excited.”

A special celebration is on the cards, with Dorcas adding: “We’re going to go out for tea and have a great big steak. And the dog is going to get spoiled too!”
