Six cars seized by police over busy weekend
DERBYSHIRE’S Roads Policing Unit has had another busy bank holiday weekend with a total of six cars seized over the first two days.
They included a suspected drinkdriver, a disqualified driver, and a driver who thought it was acceptable to video call someone while on the M1.
The busy 48 hours began on Saturday night when officers pulled over a white VW Golf in Buxton. The driver was doing around 100mph when they were clocked by police. The car pulled into a housing estate and parked up, the driver was described as looking “sheepish” when police caught up with them. They were reported for dangerous driving and had their vehicle seized.
The next incident was in Holmesfield, when an uninsured driver failed to stop for police and drove dangerously. According to officers, the driver “very quickly runs out of talent and crashes”. The man was taken to hospital with a broken arm and was later summoned for the offences.
On Sunday, the team stopped a driver in Rylah Hill, Palterton. The motorist was halted due to “misrepresented reg plates” but further inspection also showed that the car was uninsured. It was seized from the driver.
The next car to come to the attention of the police was on the A38, when officers were rewarded after spending time looking for an Audi with cloned number plates. The vehicle appeared on Sunday, May 1, leaving Derby and was stopped with the help of Staffordshire Police.
The driver was detained for failing to report to court, no insurance and no licence. The car was taken away to the police compound.
Finally, a call from a concerned motorist on the M1 led to officers stopping a red Vauxhall Insignia that had nearly crashed.
Police pulled the driver over for concerns about his bad driving, and it turned out he was making a video call.
The driver was also found to be twice the drink-drive limit and disqualified from driving, said officers. He was arrested and his vehicle seized.
