Elvaston made to suffer by Hibbert

-

IN DIVISION One, the battle of the two sides relegated from the Premier Division went the way of Chesterfield, who comfortably beat Elvaston by six wickets with almost 15 overs in hand.

Matt Archer (76) did his utmost to hold the Elvaston innings together but they found Saad Sarwary (2-30) difficult to get away.

Jake Harrold hit a quick-fire 30 in mid-innings but Elvaston were left to settle for a below par 210-9.

Sam Fawcett (69) and skipper Alex Hibbert (90) added 131 for the second Chesterfield wicket.

Hibbert cracked two sixes and 14 fours during his 82-ball stay and the Elvaston bowlers had no answer. Jake Harrold finally got his man but Reece Johnson (30 not out) was on hand to secure an easy win.

Daryn Smit belted a magnificent unbeaten 153 as Rolleston hammered an out-ofform Clifton by a mammoth 232 runs at Chapel Lane.

The Rolleston all-rounder smashed no fewer than seven sixes and 16 fours during a brilliant innings that spanned only 103 deliveries.

Gareth Marshall (25) and Louis Burrows (67) had opened with a spritely 86 and Sam Bates (48) continued the good work.

Atta Ur Rehman (2-66) had limited success but Richard Green (38 not out) joined the ever-present Smit and Rolleston ended the session on a massive 383-4.

After the break, only Shahbaz Bashir (52) and Jack Barker (27 not out) offered anything like resistance and Clifton slipped to a disappointing 151 all out in the 43rd over.

Newly-promoted South Wingfield registered their second win of the season at the expense of a disappointing Wirksworth & Middleton who were shot out for a measly 38 in 13.2 overs chasing 226.

Wirksworth struggled to handle Lewis Radford (7-24) and Tony Palladino (3-14) from the start of their reply and there was nothing much to show after Pradeep Chanditha (8) had struck a couple of early boundaries.

Morton Colliery are off the mark in 2022 following a hardfought 14-run win over Ilkeston Rutland.
