Rooney: Let’s bring it home in final clash
BOSS WANTS TO SEE AS MANY RAMS FANS AS POSSIBLE AT PRIDE PARK FOR LAST GAME OF SEASON, AS HE AND DEFENDER DAVIES PRAISE THE BACKING AT BLACKPOOL
WAYNE Rooney wants to see “as many fans as possible” at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday for the final game of a highly challenging season for Derby County.
The Rams are at home to Cardiff City in their last Championship fixture (12.30pm) before dropping down into League One.
“We will prepare right for next week, which is the last game of the season,” Rams boss boss told RamsTV.
“I hope as many fans as possible come down and support the players in that last game.
“Hopefully, we can get the three points to finish the season off and everyone will enjoy a wellearned rest.”
The Rams were backed by 4,000 travelling fans in Saturday’s 2-0 away win against Blackpool and Rooney appreciates the backing he and his players have received all season.
“It was important to reward the fans with a win at Blackpool, the support all season has been magnificent,” he said.
“We’re proud of them for supporting us all over the country this year and at home, so we want to end the season with a positive result.”
Rams defender Curtis Davies said he was “overwhelmed” by the supporters’ backing at Blackpool, where first senior goals for Malcolm Ebiowei and Eiran Cashin clinched the win.
“Long overdue win and clean sheet on the road!” Davies wrote on Twitter.
“Congrats to @malcolmebiowei and @eirancashin on their first professional goals.
“As for the fans ... I expect no less. Today was really something special and I’m honestly overwhelmed with the support!”
There was also a significant landmark for Davies at Bloomfield Road.
“Also very proud and honoured to have played 150 games for this great club.” he added.
The centre-back also sent a message to Blackpool fans after Derby were applauded by the home fans at the end of the game.
“On a side note I have to give a mention to the @blackpoolfc fans for the class they showed applauding us at the end of the game,” he wrote. “A club that’s had its own ownership problems, so know only too well what we’re going through.”
