Inaugural prom fair was glittering success

-

GLITTERING gowns and diamanté dresses were available for school leavers and students to try on at the city’s first prom fair staged by a Derby training provider.

The event was arranged by East Midlands apprenticeship provider EMA Training, at its new digital hub on Siddals Road, and was attended by suppliers from right across the city.

The fair was such a success that the company intends to arrange another prom fair later in the year, before continuing to stage the event twice yearly.

EMA Training chief executive officer, Tracey Mosley, said: “This was the very first time we have staged the Derby Prom Fair and we were delighted with its success; a great day was had by all.

“We had some wonderful suppliers on the day – particular thanks must go to Joanne and Paula from Malinda’s Bridal, in Alfreton, and the team from Moss Bros in Derbion shopping centre.

“There were some absolutely wonderful outfits on offer and it was amazing to see teenagers disappearing into the changing rooms and stepping out looking like Bond girls or 007 himself.

“We had lots of feedback from both the suppliers and the students, and with their comments in mind we will stage another fair in October half-term and again in February.”

The free event was designed to be a one-stop shop for young people planning to be the best dressed at their school prom or leavers event, and a range of secondhand and brand-new party outfits were on offer.

There was also the opportunity to win a free limousine or chauffeurdriven car to their prom by entering a prize draw on the day.

The training and apprenticeship provider opened its 9,000 sq ft digital hub in February after the firm expanded from 10 members of staff to 30 in the last two years.

The firm spent £75,000 renovating the property to create three floors of collaborative working space, break-out areas, exam suites and networking facilities.
