Axe-throwing experience targeting a launch date this month

-

THE opening date has been revealed for an axe-throwing experience coming to Derby city centre.

Unusual leisure activity Hatchet Harry’s is targeting the old Cardmarket store in Albion Street for its first Derbyshire venue.

Co-owners Jack Beadle and Richard Bridge have now announced they will open their seventh venue nationwide on Friday, May 27.

The city centre street was chosen as the next location after the owners learned of moves by property business ALB Group to snap up several commercial units there in an effort to transform the area to its former glory.

People of all ages will be able to learn techniques practised by door to the former Gap Outlet, and close to one of the entrances to Derbion.

Co-owner Jack said: “The people of Derby are going to love Hatchet Harry’s. Derby was always near the top of our list for introducing this great activity – we were just waiting for the right venue to come on the market.

“Once we heard about ALB’s plans to snap up properties in Albion Street and turn around the area’s fortunes, we were behind the plan all the way.

“And Derby needs all the good fortune it can get after facing such a challenging year with the football club. Now the city’s residents can enjoy a bit of shopping followed by a bit of chopping.”

Prices will start at £21 per person for a 90-minute supervised axe throwing experience.

The venue will also host a “club night” every Monday, where regulars and more experienced axe-throwers will be able to pay £12.50 for unsupervised sessions.

The first Hatchet Harry’s opened in Newcastle city centre three years ago, and the firm now has venues in Lister Gate, in nearby Nottingham, Liverpool, Glasgow and Aberdeen, with another opening in Middlesbrough soon.

Talks are currently under way to open new centres in Brighton and Reading, with other sites likely to follow later this year.
