Dunstall maintain their flying start

DUNSTALL continued their fine start to the Learn UK Ltd Division One campaign with a hard-fought four-wicket victory over Duffield at Eyes Meadow.

After winning the toss, Duffield made a promising start but Jamie Benstead (5-18) and Tom Hill (3-12) muscled in and the home side crumbled form 62-2 to 96 all out.

Joe Wozniczka-Wells (2-34) and Will Hodson (3-31) made life difficult for the visitors after the break but, from a shaky 36-5, Ben Whitehouse (47) and Benstead (25 not out) combined for the sixth wicket, their stand of 46 paving the way for the win.

Title contenders Rolleston proved too strong for Sawley at the Bill Camm Pavilion, Gareth Marshall (73) and Daryn Smit (80) joining forces to steer Rolleston to a match-winning 244-6.

Smit then took 5-13 to inflict the most damage as Sawley fell well short at 99 all out.

Cutthorpe held on for a 26-run win against South Wingfield after a tense finish.

Ben Kingham (63) and Liam Sadler (56) opened with a stand of 114 for Cutthorpe and Hashen Ramanayake (30) and Ed Barlow (70) maintained the momentum as the home side were all out for 286 in their 50 overs.

Saqib Hussain (2-46) and Ramanayake (2-58) left South Wingfield in trouble on 44-3 after the break but Gareth Lonie (66) and Liam Mitchell (39) got the innings back on track.

Sadler (3-65) claimed vital wickets as the visitors dipped to 205-7 but a valiant effort by Tony Palladino (26) and Andrew Wilson (30 not out) made the home side nervous, South Wingfield finishing on 260-8.

Wirksworth & Middleton celebrated their first win of the campaign at home against struggling Elvaston, who slipped to a fourth-successive defeat.

Andrew Wells (35), Rob Kettlewell (36) and Paul Birch (55 not out) helped Elvaston reach a formidable 250-8 after they won the toss.

Faizudin Oriakhail (3-35) reduced Wirksworth to 65-3 but Harsha Vithana (118 not out) and Pradeep Chanditha (82) combined impressive­ly to the tune of 183 for the fourth wicket.

The latter fell to Louis Morris but Vithana (a six and 17 fours) steered his side home with almost seven overs to spare.

On a day dominated by bowlers, Clifton eventually came out on top by four wickets against Ilkeston Rutland at Chapel Lane.

Eddie Donnelly (5-31) led the Clifton attack as Ilkeston slipped from 80-1 to 145 all out

James Lockhart (2-28) caused problems for Clifton after tea but Josh Hewitt (25) helped lift the innings from a troubling 72-5 and the hosts were comfortabl­e winners with Jack Barker (16 not out) and Paul Allen (18 out) steering their side home.

Chesterfie­ld suffered their third defeat, a five-wicket home loss against Morton Colliery.

Luke Westwell (41) made a positive start after Chesterfie­ld lost the toss and were put into bat but they lost their way and were 149 all out.

Saad Khattak (57 not out) led the reply as Morton reached their target at the start of the 46th over.
