Brewer joins the club
CUSTOMERS have been enjoying their first taste of a new sports bar now open in Derby city centre.
Run by Derby Brewing, The Clubhouse opened in the former Las Iguanas restaurant premises in Friar Gate on Thursday.
It has opened just in time for tennis fans as Wimbledon got under way yesterday. There are 16 TV screens inside for anyone hoping to watch British hopes Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray in action.
The city-based family-run brewer company will also be looking to attract Rams fans when Derby
County’s League One campaign gets started later this summer.
The venue, described as a “premium sports bar and experiential bar”, will serve an extensive drinks range with craft beers, world lagers, ales, wines and spirits, plus a shot and cocktail menu.
Derby Brewing, which in spring underwent a rebrand leaving behind its former title of Derby Brewing Company, has “artisan pizzas”, “gourmet burgers” and a range of southernstyle fried chicken on the food menu. There will also be “highenergy group games” , including darts and beer pong, with shuffle boards, a foosball table and karaoke booth also available to use. Paul Harris, managing director of Derby Brewing, said: “We have been looking for the perfect venue for a premium sport and high energy experience venue for some time and we are delighted to have secured such a fantastic site.
“We are hugely excited to bring this new concept to Derby, combining great sport, interactive group games, good times and excellent drinks and food. To combine interactive games and our take on a premium sports bar will make this a must for any Derby night out.”
The Latin America-themed restaurant chain Las Iguanas permanently closed its Friar Gate venue when it did not reopen after the coronavirus lockdown in summer 2020. But the once empty unit has now become Derby Brewing’s sixth venue.
The firm’s five other sites are The Tap, in Derwent Street, The Greyhound, also in Friar Gate, The Hole In The Wall micro-pub, in Mickleover, The Pig in Lichfield, and The Middle Bell, in Barton-underNeedwood.
