Swarkie hit back after loss to stay clear at top of the table

DERBYSHIRE Premier Division leaders Swarkeston­e bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a thumping 119-run win at home to Alfreton.

The Derbyshire duo, Alex Hughes and Harry Came, put on 181 for the second wicket to underpin a score of 325-6, Hughes going for 80 but Came completing a knock of 147 from 148 balls with 15 fours and six sixes.

Ben Hutchinson (46 not out) and Tommy Sturgess (25 not out) hit seven sixes between them as Swarkeston­e continued to make Alfreton toil, although Joe New took 4-39 from 11 overs.

Matt New (68) and Ryan Bramwell (79 not out) batted well for Alfreton but with Lewis Hearne taking 4-21, they came up well short at 206 all out.

Sandiacre are only a point behind after knocking off a target of 228-8 set by Alvaston & Boulton, for whom Garry Park scored 91.

Luke Thomas (92) and Scott McNeill (72) topped that with a second-wicket partnershi­p of 143 as Sandiacre won by five wickets.

Ockbrook & Borrowash are in third after a comfortabl­e home win against Marehay in which they made 301-7, Mykylo Bird scoring 89 and Josh Lacey 65.

After three early wickets for Jacob Conners, Luke Baddeley helped himself to 4-6 as Marehay’s reply fell away for 133.

Alrewas battled hard to get into a potential winning position against Spondon but slipped to a fourwicket defeat.

After the Herons were put in, Nick Kwant moved quickly to 59 from 61 balls in a partnershi­p of 75 with Gareth Woolley, who made 21.

Alex Scully battled to 66 before Billy Hodgkinson smashed 61 not out from 28 balls in 23 minutes, with four fours and five sixes to get them to 240-7.

However, Mitch Wagstaff and Josh Brear added 99 for the third wicket to give Spondon a foundation and captain Paul Allen settled the match by bashing 40 not out from 15 balls, with six fours and two sixes.

Ticknall set Eckington a big target of 280-5 at home but were beaten by six wickets.

William Hobson made 51 and Greg Cork scored his fourth century of the season, 132 not out from 102 balls with 14 fours and five sixes.

Two early wickets for Ousman Khizer reduced Eckington’s reply to 47-2 but Josh Andrews and Liam Musselwhit­e added 157 for the fourth wicket to turn the tide.

Musselwhit­e was out for 77 and

Andrews went on to 114 not out from 103 balls with 17 fours and a six.

Langley Mill’s 282-5 featured 62 for George Brandrick, 52 for Dan Hanson and 83 not out for Suman Shrestha, while Peter Burgoyne took 3-59 for Denby.

It was Dan Burgoyne who took centre stage in the reply, making exactly 100 from 122 balls as Denby charged to a seven-wicket win.

He put on 160 for the second wicket with Shanuka Vithanawas­am, who hit 72 from 68 balls, and Peter Burgoyne finished the job with a quick 38 not out after his brother was out with only 27 needed.
