Distillery releases second whisky as first batch sells out

-

A DERBYSHIRE distillery has released its next batch of singlemalt whisky after its first spirit sold out within days.

White Peak Distillery, based in the former Johnson and Nephew Wire Works factory in Ambergate, sold out of its inaugural range in just one weekend in early February.

The business produced 5,016 bottles of the Wire Works Single Malt Whisky with around 4,000 being pre-ordered by customers and 40 retail units, including Booths, Selfridges and House of Malt.

Now it has launched its next single-malt, called Small Batch, which is a lightly-peated whisky matured in American and French oak casks. Just over 4,300 bottles have been produced and are available online from Master of Malt and to those who visit the distillery in person.

The new release has been described as a recognisable sibling to the inaugural spirit, but with a lower ABV of 46.2%. The firm says it is a complex, approachable single malt whisky with “sweet popcorn, and orchard fruits on the nose, brandy baskets, banana and sandalwood on the palate, and a sweet vanilla finish, with a touch of nutmeg”.

White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Max and Claire Vaughan, who are both originally from Derbyshire. Max said: “We were incredibly humbled by the fantastic reaction to our first release of Wire Works Whisky in February and would like to say a big thank you to our various communities of supporters.

“Our first bottling sold out much more quickly than we could have ever anticipated, so we’re delighted to be releasing another small batch bottling and we’re looking forward to the exciting plans we have for the rest of 2022 and beyond.”

Wire Works Whisky Small Batch was released on June 23 and remains on sale for £60 for a 70cl bottle. For a spirit to be classed as a single malt whisky, it must be made from malted barley at a single distillery and aged for at least three years.

The distillery is open Monday to Saturday for shop visitors, with tours available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For availability, timings and to book, visit www.whitepeakdistillery. co.uk
