School gets yet another best rating
A DERBYSHIRE school continues to be rated as “outstanding” – seven years after it was first awarded the top grade by Ofsted inspectors.
A recent short inspection of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Langwith Junction, led inspectors to praise pupils for being “a credit to the school”.
The recently published Ofsted report noted: “Pupils are enthusiastic about school. They reflect with maturity on their learning. As one pupil said about history, ‘It can shape our lives today so that we don’t make the mistakes that people made in the past.’”
“They are friendly and well mannered. Their behaviour is exemplary. They greet visitors with confidence and warmth. The school is calm and orderly. Pupils enjoy their lessons and do their best. Pupils feel safe and happy. They enjoy very positive relationships with staff. Across the school community, the sense of togetherness is striking.”
The inspectors were also impressed by what they called “a distinctive feature” of the 243-pupil school, which was the involvement of pupils in decision-making.
The report added: “There are many opportunities for pupils to give their views. Pupil voice groups include ‘agents for change’ and mental health ambassadors. These groups make a tangible difference to the life of the school.”
Additionally, the inspectors said that the school received “high praise from parents and carers, reflecting the dedication of the staff and positive impact on pupil development”.
One parent summed up the views of many with the following comment: “The staff are amazing. My children are thriving. Forever grateful.”
Head teacher Dani Seaman was pleased with the Ofsted report and said: “We are delighted to maintain an outstanding Ofsted rating, which reflects our dedication in maintaining a nurturing and enriching environment where every child can flourish.
“It also highlights the hard work, dedication, and passion of our remarkable staff, pupils and the entire Catholic school community.
“We take great pride in our school and are committed to continuously strive to provide our pupils with the best opportunities for success.”
The school is part of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi Academy Trust, which is run by chief executive officer James McGeachie and overseen by a board of trustees, chaired by Nigel Stevenson.
When a school is judged “outstanding”, Ofsted will normally go into the school about once every four years to confirm it remains “outstanding”.
