Rosenior removed by Tigers

-

HULL City have parted company with former Derby County coach Liam Rosenior after the Tigers failed to secure a play-off place in the Championship.

Rosenior guided Hull to a seventh-placed finish this term and still harboured slim hopes of sneaking into the top six going into the final day of the season.

Having been backed by the club’s owners, though, a play-off finish was expected.

Hull recruited Liam Delap, Fabio Carvalho and Anass Zaroury on loans as well as funding permanent moves for Jaden Philogene and Aaron Connolly, at a time when many of their second tier rivals were having to conduct business with much smaller sums.

They had an inconsistent winter period but began and ended the campaign strongly.

Defeat on the final day at Plymouth Argyle confirmed they would be playing in the Championship again next term.

The Hull Daily Mail reports that owner Acun Ilicali met with Rosenior at Home Park on the final day of the season and informed him on Tuesday that he would be leaving.

Rosenior arrived at Derby in 2019, having retired from playing and was first-team coach under Phillip Cocu and then appointed as Wayne Rooney’s assistant when the former England striker succeeded Cocu in January 2021.

Following the Rams’ relegation in 2022, Rosenior initially took over from the departed Rooney before Derby brought in Paul Warne.

Rosenior was identified by Hull as the ideal candidate to replace the sacked Shota Arveladze in November 2022.

He signed a new three-year deal before Christmas last year and was even nominated for the Championship’s manager of the year award, eventually won by Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna.
