Biker’s rides to help fight on dementia
A DERBY-based worker is planning a motorcycle fundraising initiative to support an Alzheimer’s charity.
Damian Ransome, a learning and development manager at tool hire firm Travis Perkins Hire, will undertake a series of rides in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, his employer’s charity partner.
Damian previously rode more than 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in less than 24 hours, raising more than £3,000 for charity.
Between May and October, he will ride to as many as 80 locations across the UK to fulfil the rules of the Brit Butt Tour, which sees motorcyclists undertake the challenge of visiting as many of those locations as they can within that time frame.
Damian said: “The 2024 campaign is not just about pushing my physical limits but driving awareness and funding towards Alzheimer’s research and support services. Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects millions worldwide and requires urgent attention and resources. By combining my passion for motorcycle riding with this cause, I want to make a substantial impact.”
Lizzie Pearl, head of corporate partnerships at the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We cannot thank Damian enough for his incredible support in taking on this epic motorcycle challenge! Travis Perkins colleagues have gone above and beyond with their fundraising efforts. We’re delighted to be in a partnership with such an amazing organisation full of inspirational people like Damian.
“The money raised will go towards funding vital research and support services, helping all those affected by dementia. It is an incredibly exciting time for dementia research as we are seeing, for the first time, treatments that can slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s.”
Earlier this year, Travis Perkins announced a three-year partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, which works with people living with and affected by dementia.
