Business opportunity as former restaurant up for offers

-

A HIDDEN Grade II listed former chapel in Derby that has been converted into a restaurant and wedding venue has been described as a “superb opportunity” after appearing on the property market.

Wesley Chapel, on Brook Street, will be best known to locals as the former Masa restaurant - and is being sold with a guide price of £595,000.

The Old Wesleyan Chapel, according to Derbyshire County Council’s Historic Environment Record, was built in 1802 and has seen various revamps over the years, including a restoration in 2004. Masa is believed to have been closed since late 2019 after the owners moved abroad.

Estate agent Ernest Wilson has called it a “superb opportunity” to acquire a venue with such history and large capacity - with room for up to 180 covers. A statement from the agent adds: “Our clients converted this former chapel into a thriving restaurant and events venue - well known in the area for weddings and Christmas parties.

“This is an ideal opportunity to reopen the former business or as alternative use, such as a nightclub/ bar, residential, subject to the necessary consents.”

The chapel is hidden away on Brook Street by trees and bushes and is just a short walk from both the city centre and nearby supermarkets.

The historic building has two floors which comprise a bar, a beer cellar, a main dining area and a large commercial kitchen. Outside there is a paved seating area to the rear and a lawn to the front, sitting behind original wrought iron railings that are believed to be from the early 19th century.
