Things heat up for podcasters on an Irish cold case in dark comedy

- Netflix

A RAGTAG crew of producers sets out to make a true-crime podcast in this darkly comedic thriller.

Backed by none other than Michelle and Barack Obama, this series follows in the footsteps of Only Murders In The Building – riffing on the concept of people chasing content for a grisly podcast.

American hit podcaster Gilbert (Will Forte) teams up with Dove (Siobhan Cullen), an investigative journalist who is none too happy to be involved.

She’s sent to Ireland to work on the podcast to escape a problem back on her London newspaper, but doesn’t see it as proper journalism.

Also on the team is Emmy (Robyn Cara), an eager and over-enthusiastic researcher, while Chris Walley plays Sean O’Shea, a Bodkin local who gets wrapped up in the investigation.

They are there to look into the mysterious disappearance of three unconnected people from the small town 25 years ago. They all went missing on the Irish Night Of The Dead, and now Bodkin is reviving the Samhain Festival that celebrates the origin of Halloween. As Gilbert says, it’s a great ‘story lens’ for a podcast.

But once they start pulling at threads, they discover the charming Irish town holds some dark and dreadful secrets. Soon they stumble across a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined.

Gilbert wonders: “I came to Bodkin expecting a simple cold case, but what if the cold case isn’t cold?”

Over eight episodes, they try to discern fact from fiction – about the case, about their colleagues, and, most painfully, about themselves.
