Another hot weather spell is forecast
THE UK is bracing for another bout of sweltering weather, with the latest forecasts indicating a heatwave could engulf much of the country.
Temperatures are predicted to climb, potentially reaching highs of 28C in the south on August 2, while the north might see the mercury rise to a warm 25C.
This potential surge in temperature follows the recordbreaking heat experienced last Friday when St James’s Park in central London hit a scorching 31.9C, marking the hottest day of the year so far.
After enduring a spell of wet and windy conditions, the anticipated shift to warmer weather will likely be welcomed by many who have been yearning for more consistent summer warmth.
Forecasts from WXCHARTS and Netweather suggest the entire country could bask in higher temperatures come August 2.
Even typically cooler Scottish regions are expected to feel the heat, with weather charts indicating that areas may enjoy temperatures ranging between 24C and 25C.
The Midlands are also set to experience some of the period’s peak temperatures.
Meteorologist Jim Dale, founder of British Weather Services, said: “A prolonged heatwave is overdue because we haven’t had one this summer. It’s always been shortlived. Expectations would be that we would see a week somewhere in August that does deliver a hot weather scenario.”
“When that will be is difficult to determine as it’s still far away”, he added, acknowledging the challenges climate change poses to forecasting due to unpredictable weather patterns. The Met Office has also indicated that from early August until mid-month, we could be seeing “warmer than average conditions”.
Despite the potential for variability, they note: “However, there is still a substantial chance of other weather types too, with more changeable periods also likely.”
