Ticknall go back to top as Clifton are beaten

IN LEARN UK Division One, Ticknall produced another powerful batting performanc­e and are back on top of the table after leaders Clifton slipped up.

Tom Wood and Paul Borrington put on 91 for the first wicket after Ticknall chose to bat at home to Morton Colliery and after Wood went for 58, Borrington and Luke Harvey (63) added 123.

Borrington was out for 94, with 16 fours, then Greg Cork chipped in a breezy 29 with a couple of sixes and Jimmy Fry topped that with four sixes in 29 not out from 12 balls as they powered on to 295-4.

Morton started with a stand of 51 but wickets started to go after William Orpin made the first breakthrou­gh.

Cork and Wood took three wickets each, Lawrence Wilson two and Rahim Akram one as the visitors’ innings fell away to 189 all out.

For Clifton, in their nip-andtuck battle for the top spot, it was a day to forget as they chose to bat at home to Ilkeston Rutland and were shot out for 96, only Daryn Smit, with 31, resisting for long as Rob Green and Gurbaj Singh took four wickets each.

Dave Smit, with 41 not out, and Muhammad Riaz, 39 not out, ensured no alarms in an eightwicke­t win for Ilkeston.

Chesterfie­ld overcame a huge knock of 160 from 130 balls by Marehay’s Ethan Debono to maintain their promotion push in third.

Matt Taylor and Ben Slater both took 3-58 as Marehay reached 264 all out.

Rain reduced Chesterfle­ld’s target to 239 from 43 overs and after Slater (57) and Kemira Wijenayake (77) put on 105 for the second wicket, they got there with seven wickets down one ball into the last over.
