FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT PLYMOUTH:

Devon Life - - Plymouth -

Doing it for the girls: In 1919, Nancy Astor became the first woman Member of Parliament, representing the constituency of Sutton in Plymouth.

To drink: To sample a decent beer and a slice of local life, head to The Dolphin Hotel on The Barbican and The Minerva Inn (Plymouth’s oldest pub) in Looe Street. For a decent coffee, Ebrington Street is your best bet. Try the Prime Café or Good Coffee.

To visit: The aquarium is great on a cold, January day, as is the Plymouth Gin Distillery. The gallery at Plymouth College of Art is always worth a visit. And for an iconic view from an iconic place, climb the 72-feet high Smeaton’s Tower.
