WINTER WILDLIFE WALK:

Devon Life - - Winter Wildlife -

Why not add a bit of wildlife to your next wintry wander? A great activity to do either as a bit of peaceful ‘me-time’ or as a fun family outing – or even a refreshing bike ride!

The Exe Valley Trail from Exton to Topsham encompasses some of the best places to watch winter waders and wildfowl from a distance. With plentiful viewing points and bird hides en route, there will be ample opportunity to watch the wealth of winter birdlife. Once off the trail in Topsham, take a detour to your left down to the nearby Bowling Green Marsh (RSPB) for an even closer look at the Exe’s wildlife in the fantastic wildlife hide, before re-fuelling at the Pig and Palette or Lighter Inn.

As the light gets low on your way back to Exton, see if you can spot any starling murmurations forming above the estuary – or any short-eared owls making their final hunt before it gets dark; before warming up at the Puffing Billy back in Exton.
