SPECIALIST SALE FEATURING THE CHARLES MATTHEWS AUSTIN HEALEY COLLECTION AT VECTIS

THE specialist sale, held by Vectis on the 9th December, included the Charles Matthews Austin Healey Collection. The collection featured over 360 lots of models including clockwork and friction drive Bandai models, in scarce colour and livery variations, plus, models from Joustra, Tri-ang Minic, Autoart, Kyosho, Cult Scale Models, Corgi, Dinky, Tri-ang Spot on and many others.

Other items in this collection included Blue Box cars, sets, gift and presentati­on sets, plus wooden and resin bodies, plastic kits, remote control cars, dioramas and scarce early tinplate Scalextric models. Further items in the sale included boxed and unboxed Dinky road and race cars, including Dublo Dinky, French Dinky and pre-war models. Plus, Britains Lilliput Series, Matchbox, Corgi catalogues and TV and Film related models.

There were plenty of very interestin­g diecast up for grabs, and here are just some of the highlights (turn to page 74 for more results in our Price Guide).

Estimate: £800 - £900 Sold For: £1900 Rare dark red-brown body, cast open, rare ivory interior, grey base, flat spun hubs. Near mint in excellent plus blue/ yellow box.

Estimate: £700 - £900 Sold For: £1700 Seven vehicles, all good plus to excellent in fair to good plus boxes, five kits unmade in original factory plastic bags complete with instructio­ns & unused decal sheets, plus figure packs. Good to near mint in fair to good blue/yellow window boxes. Set complete with vinyl roadway & instructio­ns.

Lot 2425 Dinky Toys No 39c pre-war Lincoln Zephyr Coupe

Estimate: £80 - £120 Sold For: £320 Mid-green, with black smooth hubs, thin axles and lacquered baseplate, lacks the front tyres and some play wear. Fair to good.

Lot 2427 Dinky Toys No39e pre-war Chrysler Royal Sedan

Estimate: £200 - £300 Sold For: £680 Scarce yellow example, with black smooth hubs, thin axles and lacquered baseplate, some play wear. Fair to good.

Lot 2428 Dinky Toys No 39f pre-war Studebaker Stake Commander 2-door Coupe

Violet blue with black smooth hubs, thin axles and lacquered baseplate, lacks a rear tyre. Fair to good.

Lot 2465 Dinky Toys No 25m Bedford End Tipper

Estimate: £50 - £60 Sold For: £600 Orange cab, body and chassis, green ridged hubs. Excellent plus to near mint.

Lot 2527 Dinky Toys No 264 Ford Fairlane RCMP Patrol Car

Estimate: £50 - £70 Sold For: £320

Dark navy blue body with white door panels, red roof-light & original rear aerial, ivory interior complete with both figures, baseplate without number cast, spun hubs. Excellent plus in good box.

Lot 2536 Dinky Toys No 920 Guy Warrior Van "Heinz Tomato Ketchup"

Estimate: £300 - £400 Sold For: £660 Red cab & chassis, yellow van body & Supertoy hubs, signs of some repainting to van body roof although both decals are factory original. Excellent in good plus correct blue-striped box.

Lot 2650 Dublo Dinky No 068 Morris Minor Royal Mail Van, 071 Volkswagen Transporte­r Delivery Van "Hornby Dublo" and 073 Land Rover & Horse Box

Estimate: £60 - £70 Sold For: £240 Interestin­g trio of Dinky Dublo Toys, all in good to excellent condition, with just a few paint chips to each, and in excellent original boxes.
