AN INSPIRED WINTER PROJECT

-

HAVING viewed the magazine over the last few months, I was very interested in how your models were enhanced by placing them within a theme, i.e. bus terminal, garage, etc. I thought, I would drop you a few photos of my very first scratch built diorama, which is nearing completion. Forestry, around my area is a very productive industry and, during one of my many walks, I noted the lorries uplifting the timber logs - which had been already felled & placed at edge of the forestry track, in the form of a lay-by, and ready to be loaded. It was decided, this was the project. So I photographed this particular view and then went onto replicating it on a diorama. By the way, the haulage company wasn’t Stobart - it was one of our own local haulage companies. Most of the material I used was from around the house, shed or even the garden - because very early into the project, I realised that diorama construction material can be quite expensive. Base was an old dressing cabinet drawer, stone wall was made from stones from the flower pots, fence wire was in the shed and used for retaining my plants, fence posts were old used matchsticks. Gates/posts were plywood from old packaging, terrain is wall filler, which was lying around in the shed, and the ground material I swept from the kerb. That said, I did purchase the trees/grass & foliage. AlexanderTough, email

ED Wow! That is superb, Alexander! The realism is excellent, and I love the fact that you've used so many bits and bobs from around the house (and garden!), very resourceful. Top job!
