Over the last 20 years, several hundred models of fire and rescue vehicles, manufactured among others by Solido, Norev, Eligor or Ixo, have been sold worldwide by publishers such as Hachette, Altaya, DeAgostini or Del Prado. These miniatures, distributed in various partwork press collections, are presented and described in this book, allowing both the amateur and the expert to discover littleknown vehicles, as well as their history.
When Solido launched its first exclusive fire vehicle partwork, in 1999, Ixo soon followed and it set in motion a whole series of similar collections from all the main manufacturers of magazine-based releases. It is these collections that make up Chapter 1, which in iteslf is split into sub-chapters by manufacturer.
Chapters 2 and 3 then break down the various collections and group them by real vehicle manufacturers, making it very easy to focus if that is your way of collecting. Chapter 2 concentrates on French companies, whereas Chapter 3 groups vehicles by manufacturers from other countries around the world.
Rounding off the main sections of the book, Chapter 4 details emergency vehicles used by the police, military and ambulance services and includes airport fire vehicles. It then details specifically-themed collections, before the book finishes with a very useful index.
Beautifully presented, in a handily-sized volume, this fabulously in-depth analysis is an exhaustive reference on the subject. The text is in French, but, even without a grasp of the language, the illustrations are largely self-explanatory, with several angles of many of the models adding to the information included. The lists by series in the appendix are an essential help for those wishing to complete their collection. ■
