COLLECTING TASTES AND ALTERNATIVES

I am an avid and eager reader of Diecast Collector. I collect any model that takes my eye in any scale. My collection is 200+ pieces and is quite diverse. I am very keen on American models of vintage recovery trucks by First Gear and also American Drag Racing diecasts in many scales. Vintage boxed Corgis/Dinkys are also a passion, most of which I would have had as a boy, and sought out again in later life. High detail 1/18 and 1/43 scale racing cars are another addition, along with racing car transporters. My main point in contacting you is that I also love to collect high detail slot racing models, which I never race and only collect for their incredible detail, accuracy and finish. These models are all 1/32 or 1/24 and are, in my opinion great value for money. The slot guides are easily removed,if desired, and display superbly. This might be something to feature in the future, with the addition of some movie based models being released, I think the appeal is getting stronger to the general collector. I have 55+ in my collection and counting. Finally I often see new release models in the magazine, which could be anything in any scale, but the appeal is so great, I have to order one - the latest being the fantastic Manchetts recovery truck.

ED Hi Andrew, many thanks for sharing the images of your fabulous collection – it seems we share many similar collecting tastes. Your point about slot cars is a very interesting one, and I do have a fair few of these too, although I hadn’t thought about removing the slot guides – I simply display them on some old Scalextric track on my shelves. It’s a tricky area to move into for the magazine though, given that the materials are a little too far removed from the diecast remit. Resincasts and white metal handbuilts are more aligned with our subject matter, as they are complete models. I’d be interested to hear other readers’ thoughts on this matter.
