IM­PORT IM­AGE on im­port into light­room it is clear that the im­age will need both global and lo­cal ad­just­ments to recre­ate the sense of drama in the orig­i­nal stormy scene.

GLOBAL AD­JUST­MENTS Do the usual ad­just­ments: white bal­ance, tonal ad­just­ments, sharp­en­ing, crop­ping and so on. The re­sult is good, but more drama can be added.

RE­FINE THE SKY se­lect the grad­u­ated fil­ter tool and pull it down over the sky. Boost clar­ity, con­trast and darken the sky fur­ther if nec­es­sary. Zoom in to check noise lev­els.

EN­HANCE WAVE TEX­TURE se­lect the Ad­just­ment Brush tool and paint a mask onto the waves and any other area you want to ad­just. in­crease clar­ity, con­trast and De­haze.

CHECK FOR NOISE Zoom to 100% and scroll around the im­age look­ing for noise and arte­facts. if there is a prob­lem, pull back on the ad­just­ments and/or add noise re­duc­tion.

SAVE IM­AGE save the im­age to a uni­ver­sal for­mat such as TIFF or JPEG. TIFFs are rec­om­mended if you plan on do­ing any fur­ther ad­just­ments to the im­age.
