Photoshop to go mobile and a simpler video editing app announced

Adobe used its annual Adobe Max Creativity Conference as the forum to announce a raft of updates to its Creative Cloud (CC) suite of apps. In addition to improvements to Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, Dimension CC and Adobe XD, there were some interesting announcements for Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. Adobe also revealed a new app called Premier Rush that’s designed to help make it easier to edit short videos for sharing on social media platforms.

Following on from the introduction of Lightroom Mobile, Adobe has now announced Photoshop CC for iPad. This is a version of Photoshop that has been redesigned to make use of the touch-control afforded by a tablet. However, it gives access to all the usual Photoshop tools and can handle Layers in the same way as the desktop version of the app, complete with the familiar layers panel. It will enable PSD files to be opened and edited on an iPad with seamless transitions between mobile editing and working on the desktop version. It is set to become available in 2019, starting with the iPad and ultimately spreading to other platforms.

Another update to Photoshop CC uses Adobe Sensei-powered features to introduce a new Content-Aware Fill workspace. This will enable greater precision and control when removing unwanted objects in images.

The main improvements for Lightroom CC are focused around helping photographers find their images. There’s a new People View option, for instance, that’s designed to help with tracking down shots of individuals. The search tool has also been improved, and there’s a new Share tab that makes it easier to find albums and images that have been shared to lightroom.adobe.com.

Perhaps the most exciting announcement for Lightroom, however, is the release of HDR Panoramas, which will help with merging bracketed images shot to create a panorama.

Meanwhile Premier Rush CC, which will be included in the Creative Cloud All Apps plan and Premiere Pro CC single App plan, or costs $9.99 (approximately £7.70) per month for individuals, is available now for iOS devices. Unfortunately for Android users, they will have to wait until 2019.
