it’s rare that the newborn baby will arrive asleep, stay asleep for the duration of the photo session and then go home asleep. So, you’ll need to allow lots of time to settle them, and for them to be fed and changed.

to help the session go as smoothly as possible, ensure the room is heated to about 24 degrees. When the baby is wrapped this can be reduced. they need to feel warm and cosy, although not too hot.

A good option is to use white noise to help settle the baby; there are lots of phone apps you can download for this purpose. Settle the baby yourself rather than asking the parents to do it. gently swaying and stroking the nose are great ways to relax a baby. if you stay calm and confident then the baby will feel relaxed too.
