SELECT THE BEST LENSES
How to choose the perfect lens for your target subject
MEDIUM TELEPHOTO
While long tele lenses are effective, a mid-range telephoto zoom such as a 70-200mm f2.8 is a highly versatile professional kitbag favourite. the focal range allows flexible composition, especially useful when shooting groups of subjects.
LONG TELEPHOTO
the lens type most commonly associated with wildlife imaging, the fixed focal length prime, enables an ideal blend of reach, brightness and sharpness. Favoured models are 500mm and 600mm f4 lenses, for frame-filling compositions and perspective compression.
TELEPHOTO ZOOM
While there is a compromise on the absolute sharpness of long primes, zoom lenses in the 100-400mm range have become a popular choice for photographers shooting more erratic subjects at varying distances from the camera. a great multi-purpose tool.
WIDE-ANGLE ZOOM
not every image function requires the subject to be isolated by a long focal length. Wide-angle lenses show more of the environment, which complements flower studies and personal animal portraits. Optics in the 16-35mm range are generally most popular.
