IN-CAMERA B&W SETTINGS

Delve into your camera’s Picture Settings and you’ll discover a range of monochrome options

-

Back in the (analogue) day, creating black and white photographs was a laborious process that involved blacked-out rooms and smelly chemicals. now, it couldn’t be easier. Turn your camera on, select the Picture settings and choose the Monochrome option. not only will this let you shoot black and white images instantly, but you can also fine-tune specific aspects of those images.

You can adjust sharpening and contrast, add the effects of colour contrast-controlling filters (red, yellow, orange and green) or add a colour tone to your images such as sepia, blue, purple or green.

Remember that you need to set your camera to JPeG capture for the monochrome settings to be applied in-camera. Also, the black and white images recorded can’t be reverted back to colour later. For the best of both worlds, set both RAW and JPeG capture so you’ll have a colour RAW file and a black and white JPeG.
