TALKING POINT… CANON RF MOUNT

-

Canon has introduced a new lens mount with the EOS R. Dubbed the RF mount, it has a mount diameter of 54mm, which is larger than the Canon EF mount and enables faster lenses to be made. Meanwhile, the flange distance has been reduced to 20mm. That’s deeper than the 16mm flange distance of the Nikon Z mount, but it means that Canon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras can be thinner than its DSLRs.

There are currently only four RF-mount lenses in production, the RF 28-70mm f2L USM, RF 50mm f1.2L USM, RF 35mm f1.8 Macro IS

STM and RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM, however Canon has also introduced three EF lens mount adapters. Our pick is the Control mount ring adapter EF-EOS R, which gives EF an additional control ring.
