Selectively represent detail at the extremes of the tonal scale

it is possible to become preoccupied by maintaining highlight and shadow detail, but try intentionally saturating highlights and blocking shadows for extreme contrast. effective in architecture and some landscape photography, use spot metering to work the extremes of the tonal range and selectively strip detail from certain areas, to redirect viewer attention within the frame.
