USE ASPECT CREATIVELY

Consider how frame shape can alter balance in your compositions

-

The native aspect ratio of most digital cameras is 3:2, which produces a rectangular frame. To aid less conventional framing, try altering the native frame shape in-camera, by selecting a 4:3, 5:4 or even a 1:1 square crop. Doing this incamera allows precise framespecific composition, using on-screen guides. Try applying a square aspect to minimalist landscapes for a filmic quality, and 5:4 where the areas of interest are more centralised in the scene.
