Quick-fire pro advice to improve your automotive shots

1

CHANGE YOUR ANGLE Don’t shoot from head height. Changing your angle to a low or high perspective will make your photos more interesting.

2

INCLUDE PEOPLE Shooting people with cars is tricky. The key is to connect them to the subject; sit them inside the car or lean them against a wheel or front grille for a strong image.

3

VARY YOUR SHUTTER SPEED Start with faster shutter speeds when panning and slow them down when you are confident you have the shot, ie 1/250th-1/60th second.

4

PICK THE RIGHT LOCATION Pay attention to what’s in the background of your images and try to choose a sympathetic location for your car.

5

GET THE RIGHT LIGHT The best light of the day for shooting cars is when the sun has set on a blue sky day – the golden 15 minutes! Don’t forget to use a tripod.
