“USING A WIDER FOCAL LENGTH DEMANDS A LOT OF CARE AND SKILL”

- MATT BENNETT, EDITOR matthew.bennett@futurenet.com

Welcome to the latest issue of DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER magazine. Many of us can recall the experience of buying our very first camera kit, and soon after discovering that the standard zoom lens that came with it was more than a little limiting.

Either you want to get a bit closer to the action, or perhaps include more of the scene within the frame. This is particularly true for landscape photographers – 28mm is often simply not wide enough for the sort of compositions you want to create.

But instead of dramatic, sweeping scenes, you can end up with shots that don’t quite hang together. That’s because using a wider focal length demands a lot of care and skill. In the main feature in this issue, we’ve taken a look at how to achieve success with wide-angle lenses. Head over to p34 to read it.

Elsewhere, we’ve explored how to shoot more spontaneously, which you’ll find on p48 of the magazine. Lee Frost explores the various ways in which you can get more from your photography and improve your success rate.

There’s also a look at the world of pet photography on p62, as we reveal the skills involved in successful portraits of animals.

Of course, there’s also a range of interviews, image galleries, expert product reviews and industry news for you to get your teeth into, and our regular career guide. The group test this issue looks at wide-angle zooms from third-party manufacturers.

As always, we’d love to see some of your own images, so please upload them to our Facebook page at WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/DIGITALPHOTOGRAPHERUK.

Until next time, enjoy your photography!
